This report provides a detailed outline of the functional components that comprise the architecture of the SCAPE project, in particular describing the interfaces required between each of these functional entities. It should be read in conjunction with the Technical Implementation Guidelines, which define project-wide technologies, coding best practices and recommendations for development environments and tools, and also in conjunction with other SCAPE deliverables as referenced throughout this document. This report is primarily aimed at those wishing to get an understanding of the general architecture of the SCAPE environment and how all the various development activities combine together, but it also serves as a means to capture the direction of development and ensure all developers understand the interconnections surrounding their work.
