SCAPE and Hadoop – interview with Clemens Neudecker and Sven Schlarb

This year’s Hadoop Summit in Europe will include a SCAPE presentation by Clemens Neudecker (National Library of the Netherlands) and Sven Schlarb (Austrian National Library) based on their paper ‘The Elephant in the Library’. This event is the leading conference for the Apache Hadoop community.

Interviews with presenters will from now on be featured on the Hadoop blog, starting with an interview with Clemens and Sven from the SCAPE project. The interview is available from the Hadoop website: Meet the presenters.

Apache Hadoop is an open-source software framework that supports data-intensive distributed applications, licensed under the Apache v2 license. It supports the running of applications on large clusters of commodity hardware. Hadoop is becoming more and more important to digital libraries with the growing amount of digital information. This SCAPE paper discusses the role Apache Hadoop is playing in the mass digitization of cultural heritage in the MLA sector. An abstract of the paper is available here: www.scape-project.eu/news/scape-at-hadoop-summit-march-2013.
